MCCSF has been performing same-sex unions for over thirty years.
It’s an important part of how we live out our experience of the
Divine. Prior to your service, the minister you select will
schedule meetings with you. During these pre-wedding meetings,
you will be invited to talk about your relationship, why
marriage is the right choice for you, and other matters relating
to your life as a family. Couples must be together for a least a
year to be married at MCCSF.
There are also some practical matters to consider, when planning
a ceremony:
Please have in mind at least two dates/times for your ceremony.
Fridays and Saturdays are generally available. Sunday afternoons
(1pm-4pm, between church services) are fine if your wedding will
be small and if it’s at the church. Mondays through Thursdays
during the day are also available in most circumstances.
Ask yourselves the following questions:
- Will the ceremony occur here at the church or another
location ?
- About how many guests besides you and your partner will
be attending ?
- Will you be having a reception here ?
- Have you a preference for a male or a female minister?
- Are you providing your own music; if so, have you
arranged for musicians?
- Will you require assistance with the service, or are you
fairly certain which elements you wish to incorporate?
- Will members of your family of origin be present or
participating?
We usually perform weddings in one of two spaces:

Our Sanctuary holds up to 250 people comfortably.

Our Chapel, a much more intimate space, holds 20-25 people
comfortably.
Outdoor Ceremonies
We have a lovely garden patio available at the church. In
inclement weather, the ceremony could easily be moved indoors to
the Sanctuary or Chapel. We have also performed outdoor weddings
at Golden Gate Park, Marin Headlands, Lake Merritt, and Bay Area
beaches, but keep in mind these can often be chilly or windy
options in San Francisco .
