In 1996 we began a working partnership with
San Francisco Network
Ministries (SFNM), a non-profit, non-denominational community organization
founded in 1972 and based in the Tenderloin neighborhood of San
Francisco. Under the direction of Rev. Glenda Hope,
SFNM
conducts numerous programs to benefit poor and homeless people
of the Tenderloin, as well as the many immigrant families who live
there. Our partnership with SFNM includes the following programs:
-
Computer Training Center -- MCCSF volunteers join with
the staff of the SFNM Computer Training Center at 366 Eddy Street
to offer free training in basic computer skills to Tenderloin
residents. The training empowers people through personal development
as well as practical skills for seeking employment in computer-related
fields. MCCSF member Richard Ventura is the volunteer coordinator
and works closely in a development and consulting capacity with
SFNM Computer Training Center staff director Robin Pugh.
How To Get Involved
If you have basic computer skills that you would like to share,
contact Richard Ventura: venturrs@maritz.com.

-
"Share This Love" (at the Ambassador Hotel) -- San
Francisco Network Ministries runs a drop-in counseling center at
the Ambassador Hotel in the Tenderloin. The residents of the
hotel -- many of whom are living with HIV/AIDS and at least one
other debilitating problem -- have few resources and tend to
be socially isolated. Volunteer counselors and clergy staff "The
Listening Post" in a room at the hotel for an hour and a half
each day where residents can drop in, receive counseling, or
just talk in an environment that is safe and supportive.
